Give praise when praise is due

Dr Eric Thorburn writes:

We are all so quick to complain, but very seldom stop to praise.

So, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the excellent service I received at the Douglasdale Police Station.

Just last week I took my teenage grandson along to the station to get a police clearance certificate for him, which he needs as he is off to China for a year to teach English in a remote village in Mongolia. What a way to spend a gap year.

Our arrival at reception was greeted with a smile.

As nothing happens until one pays first, we were directed to their finance division. More smiles, and believe it or not, a table in the foyer with a cloth and a vase of flowers. Was this an initiative of the local community policing forum, which supports this branch and promotes better community/police relations?

Fingerprinting was next on the agenda. More surprises… a lady in reception asked how she could help and then personally led us to this facility, where again we were welcomed with a smile and impressed with their efficiency.

The next step would be for us to deliver all the documents to Pretoria for a quick turn around. Because there is a confusing selection of police departments in that city, riddled with one-way streets and very little parking, we were advised exactly where to go by the attending Douglasdale police officer.

All in all, very efficient and friendly service; such a far cry from what I had initially anticipated. Hats-off to all at Douglasdale.
