Douglasdale police make arrests in attempted murder case

The Douglasdale police are investigating cases of attempted murder, possession of housebreaking implements, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to the station commander of Douglasdale police, Brigadier Samuel Thambo, three suspects, aged 25, 28 and 38, were arrested on 10 January.

“We arrested the suspects at about 5am at BMW auto dealership along Witkoppen and Cedar roads in Fourways.”

He added that the security guard was patrolling the area when he noticed a black Hyundai Tucson with suspicious-looking persons inside.

“As he approached their vehicle, the suspects started firing shots at him. The security guard then fired back at the suspects until he managed to corner them. The suspects then abandoned their vehicle and tried to flee the scene on foot.”

The police were informed about the incident and proceeded to the scene. “Upon arrival two of the suspects had sustained injuries to the lower body, they were arrested and taken to hospital for treatment. The third suspect did not sustain injuries and was also arrested while the fourth suspect is still at large.”

Thambo added that they recovered a .38 revolver with serial numbers filed off, six live rounds, a black Hyundai Tucson, pickaxe head, knife blade, hand gloves and balaclavas at the scene.

“Intensive police preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are linked to several other cases from around the province, including car hijacking, business burglary, theft of motor vehicle and attempted murder. The Hyundai Tucson was reported stolen at Sunnyside in November last year.”

The arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon while police investigations continue.

“The police thank the security forum for a good working relationship and appeal to anyone with information that might assist the investigations to phone the station.”
