Over R10 000 raised for those fighting cancer

At the end of March children from Summit College in Kyalami hosted a special Cuppa for Cansa event which also allowed the Grade 1 and Grade 12 classes to get to know one another.

Cuppa for Cansa events are hosted in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) and help raise the funds that allow the organisation to support and care for those battling the disease. At these events, guests enjoy a tea party with snacks and a fun atmosphere.

The event is held annually at the school, and this year the younger children taught the older children how to make race cars out of biscuits. The tables were specially decorated as well.

“A huge thank you to all our sponsors who contributed to the success of this initiative,” explained Annah Vilakazi who is in charge of marketing and admissions at Summit. “An auction was held and an incredible amount of R10 700 was raised.

“Another R5 000 was collected in the form of ticket sales. Each guest had to bring a teddy bear and the collected toys will be given to the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Coronationville, Johannesburg. Summit College is proud to be part of such an important initiative and we hope to touch the lives of many more cancer patients and survivors,” Vilakazi concluded.
