Woodrock sterilisation clinic finally complete

Woodrock Animal Rescue recently celebrated the completion of their sterilisation clinic.

The ribbon was cut at the launch at Hennops River Valley on 12 May, indicating that the sterilisation building was officially open to serve dogs in need.

Helene Brand, CSI Manager for MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet said, “Woodrock Animal Rescue has been part of the MySchool programme for many years and has proven to be a much-loved organisation that also delivers best practice when it comes to animal rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing.”

She highlighted that the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet programme was honoured to announce a donation of R500 000 towards equipping the new clinic, which will help ensure it becomes fully operational sooner than expected. “This could only be done through the support of our MySchool cardholders who help us raise funds every time they shop, without costing them a cent!”

The need for a sterilisation facility came about after staff at Woodrock had to drive rescue animals in need of medical attention to vets in Johannesburg, which took about an hour and a half, per trip. The trips were expensive and often stressful for the animals and also wasted valuable time in emergency cases.

Arina Vrey of MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet hands over a cheque to Dean Meldau of Woodrock Animal Rescue for much-needed equipment for the sterilisation clinic.

With their dream and mission for the clinic in mind, the animal rescue team hopes that their premises will be the go-to place where they can treat and sterilise rescue animals. They also hope that the clinic will help their flagship township outreach programme to assist the surrounding communities to care for and sterilise their pets.
