The Colour Purple

Based on the 1982 novel written by Alice Walker and the 1985 Steven Spielberg – directed film, The Colour Purple is a musical that takes the audience through the story of young Celie, who overcomes and eventually rises above her many adversities, through the help and support of three other women in her life. The musical has received overwhelming critical and public acclaim.

Totalsports Women’s Race

The streets of Johannesburg will be painted pink on National Women’s Day as thousands of women #RunUnited in support of PinkDrive. South African rapper and poet, Sho Madjozi will entertain thousands of runners and walkers at the Totalsports Women’s Race at Mary Fitzgerald Square.

Words in Motion

The Orbit celebrates Women’s Day with Poetry courtesy of Words In Motion. Host, Natalia Molebatsi brings over Lebo Mashile, Koleka Putuma, Lex Futshane, Yonela Mnana, and Siphiwe Shiburi to treat you to some poetry and jazz in honour of women.

First Ladies First

Every Thursday, during Women’s Month, a variety of collaborative first ladies; comedians, poets, singers and rappers, join forces to bring awareness, promote communication, honesty and respectfulness in the plight to put an end to GBV. Join Lady Zamar, Nadia Nakai, Moonchild Sanelly, Taylor Jaye, Nomonde Sky, Nirvana Nokwe, DBN Gogo, DJ Zai Maya, DJ Candii, The Funny Chef and many others, for an array of eclectic performances and discussions to bring further awareness to and build a path to ending GBV. Ladies get in free.

P.O.P Art will be showing Dear Mr Government, Please May I have a Meeting with You Even Though I’m Six Years Old? a tender retelling of what children say about their governments. The play is built on the words of children in Lesotho and South Africa and invites audiences—from eight-year-olds, to teenagers, to adults
